Oregon Coast’s Massive Waves Claim One & Damages Property
Oregon Coast, January 19th 2018.
30-60 ft waves are rare in Oregon and no doubt sparked the curiosity of residents and tourists alike. For one Newport man, it has proven to be fatal.
The coast guard officially called off search and rescue efforts in Depoe Bay early this morning as the man is presumed dead. Next of kin will be notified shortly as is protocol.
Oregon officials have urged onlookers to stay away from closed parks and parking lots and to carefully watch for sneaker waves and loose debris.

These types of storms only happen every few years in the NW. The aftermath is usually some damaged houses and and some closed state parks, but that’s no reason to be careless. If you or a loved one is at the coast right now, use extra precaution when viewing the waves and make sure to stand a safe distance away.
The Oregon Coast, in all her glory. Breathtaking.
